If there isn't any question that you are the child's father, you can sign the affidavit that establishes paternity. You should only do this if you are completely sure you are the father

If there is any question about who the child's father is, a paternity test can be done. This is done through genetic testing, which can determine if a man is a child's father with a very high success rate, usually with a probability of more than 99 percent.

We understand that you might want to assert your rights as your child's father to be able to establish custody and visitation. These rights come with responsibilities -- one of which is paying child support. If you are concerned about establishing paternity or have questions about how you need to go about doing this, you should get those questions answered by a knowledgeable family law attorney so that you can move forward with being the parent your child deserves.
