In addition to being a custodial parent, more information may be needed by the state child support agency in order to award support. The other parent will need to be located, so any information, such as address and employer, is extremely helpful. Also, has paternity been established? If there is any concern, a paternity test will need to be taken by the alleged father. A child support order will then need to be issued once it is confirmed that the other parent can be located and that he is the child’s father.
The child support process can be complicated. However, children have financial needs and fighting the child support battle may be worth it in the end.
